Hi! In short, I have a desktop computer with the hardware listed below that is only giving me 100 Mbps connection speed. I have 'the GIG' from CenturyLink and have tested on laptop with hard wire ethernet cable plugged in and it runs at +/- 800 Mbps. The desktop also has ethernet cable plugged in.
Motherboard: Asus Maximus IV
Network adapter 1: Intel 82579V Gigabit
Network adapter 2: Intel 82583V Gigabit
Modem: Zyxel C1000Z
Ethernet cable: Cat 5e
I've tried each adapter with the same results. I've also tried to update drives for adapters to no avail. Someone suggested the adapter does not 'shake hands nicely' with the modem at 1000 Mbps, thus defaulting to 100 Mbps.
So I guess my next step would be to buy another adapter, possibly one verified to work nicely with CenturyLink's modem, that will plug into the PCI express slot. I've never done that so not sure one iota if that will work.
Anyone care to take a shot at helping me resolve this so I can download movies in the time it takes to eat a cookie?
Thanks muchly,
Jeff

I have an Asus P8P67 pro mobo with the Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection network adapter built in. It currently is using ver 11 driver. I found the latest driver (PROWinx64.exe) to update.

- Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection PROBLEM: Unable to start the network adapter. (in event viewer) windows tells me I have the best ones. I found theses on the net from Intel but it says PHY at the end of them.
- The devices are 'Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205' and 'Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection'. I'm getting this problem after upgrading from Windows 8.1 (x64) Using driver versions 15.18.0.1 for Centrino and 12.9.15.0 for Gigabit.
